Molnupiravir is a compound similar to Remdesivir, and both drugs work by mimicking ribonucleotides, the main components of RNA molecules. During the virus replication process, the molecules of these drugs can be incorporated into the viral RNA strand, replacing the nucleic acid base sequences produced by the original normal replication of some viruses, causing errors in the nucleic acid sequences of virus replication, and these fatal nucleic acid sequence errors continue to occur. Accumulation, also known as error mutation, ultimately prevents the virus from replicating, multiplying and spreading.
